Why Trees?

“Trees are the cheapest and most effective means of binding CO2, allowing us more time to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero and mitigate the climate crisis.”

– UN Environmental Program

Fast Facts Driving Our Film:

  • 50% of the world’s trees have disappeared since civilisation – impacting health, food sources, access to medicines, ecosystems, wildlife and climate change

  • 15% of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by tree-loss

  • 85% of all species are threatened due to habitat loss

  • Our consumer decisions are causes of deforestation – from the food we eat, to the furniture we buy

  • Australia, the home-base for A TREE IS FOR LIFE, is a deforestation hotspot – ranked the 11th worst country in the world

  • There is enough suitable land to support 900 million hectares – 25% more – forested areas than we have right now

  • By eliminating deforestation by 2030, we would help reduce carbon emissions to avoid a temperature rise of 2°C — the point of no return.

Ultimately, we have 10 years to undo 200 years of damage caused by deforestation.
