Documentary Australia Foundation Backs Ground-Breaking Tree Documentary
Financing has commenced for a new documentary which positions trees as a key solution in the climate emergency.
Backed by the Documentary Australia Foundation, A TREE IS FOR LIFE will span four corners of the globe, showcasing the world’s most iconic trees, and illustrating the need to reset the balance with nature, as trees continue to disappear at an unprecedented rate, impacting global ecosystems, wildlife, food and medicine supplies and climate change.
Producer Cathy Rodda said, “We are thrilled that the Documentary Australia Foundation (DAF) has accepted A TREE IS FOR LIFE into DAF’s new Environmental Incubator. DAF has supported some of Australia’s most successful environmental documentaries, including BLUE and 2040, and we similarly aim to generate global climate conversations with a new focus on trees and the critical role they play in protecting and enabling all life on the planet.”
Despite the challenging topic of the environmental outlook, Rodda said A TREE IS FOR LIFE paints a positive picture of the possibilities that trees provide.
“One football field of forest is felled every second, both releasing carbon and reducing our capacity to capture it, impacting global warming.
“The United Nations states that trees are the most cost-effective way to halt the climate emergency, and has set a goal to eliminate deforestation in 10 years and increase forest cover by 3% globally to reduce carbon emissions and avoid increasing our global temperature by 2°C – the point of no return.
“Our vision is to generate the people power and political will needed to plant and protect trees as the most accessible and cost-effective way to fight climate change. We aim to do this by inspiring, educating and connecting people, not for profits, corporates and governments to take action through our impact campaign, which will launch alongside A TREE IS FOR LIFE.
“By reminding people of the connection between trees and humanity, by meeting inspiring people around the world protecting trees, and by bringing trees to life in ways never before seen on screen, we want people to reconnect with their roots, reconsider all that we gain from trees, and re-prioritise trees, taking action to plant and protect them now and for all future generations.”
Rodda said filming is expected to start in early-mid 2021, spanning Australia, South East Asia, Europe, Africa, Canada and the United States.
